As a clinical psychologist with 40 years of experience, I can attest that the vast majority of depressed patients come to realize that drug treatment has not done them any good, but have trouble ending it because of withdrawal, or what Pharma euphemistically calls "discontinuation syndrome." Ask yourself the simple question: if antidepressants were effective, why would we need a dozen or more of them? Switching to one drug or another is extremely common, and contributes to the myth that biological psychiatrists are "fine tuning" the treatment. In reality, it's all a shell game. My cynicism is born of experience, second-hand, hundreds of times over, as well as reviews of the literature.

Thanks for a very fair and accurate post.

This article is very well written, but the best thing about it is its tone. The humble, thoughtful nature by which the recommendations are conveyed strikes a great balance between clarity without misleading the reader about the uncertainty present in this area. Fauci and the CDC could learn a lot about communications from this article.
