Quite moving, Doctor. I wish more medical professionals today were as unafraid of their emotions — and courageous enough to accept their imperfect humanity. Thank you for sharing yourself.

Crying on my back patio, missing my husband whom you would have included in this post had he been one of your patients. He died at 58 of cancer and these were his final words at 2:30 in the morning after having said no words in 30 hours: “Bridget, we never had to worry! We never had to worry! We never had to worry!” He breathed his last breath four hours later in our home with his family at the bedside I have spent the last eight years thinking about and being grateful for those last words. What did he see? What was the epiphany? I did visit with his primary care physician after his death because I didn’t want the doctor to live with a feeling of guilt or shame.
