Biden's debate performance was disturbing, suggesting significant neurological decline. He should retire, as should many of our ancient politicians on both sides of the aisle. Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Diane Feinstein stayed on far too long, and damaged their legacy. It's obvious that grasping for ego satisfaction knows no age limit.

US commercial pilots have to retire at age 65. There's no age limit OR cognitive testing for either physicians or politicians, but there probably should be (I say this as a 74 year-old physician). I agree with Nikki Haley's call for competency testing after age 75. The care of our patients and the care of our country have precedence over anyone's inability to face the facts.

The medical profession can not be trusted. That is clear.

And yet I deeply trust certain physicians. I would believe Vinay Prasad and his colleagues (Adam Cifu, John Mandrola, “Doc Heme”) before any of the smucks on TV.

It goes beyond just career opportunism. Neurosurgical colleagues yesterday were in complete denial of Biden's neurological decline. There does seem to be a kind of hive mind virus phenomenon that humans are vulnerable to. It overwrites our own senses and common sense. Or maybe its just when people want something too much, they take shortcuts to get it.

Agreed, though there will always be quacks. I'm not sure it does any good playing wack-a-mole calling them out vs just focusing on issues and the truth. It's tough not to though on social media when they have huge followings and prestigious positions.

Totalitarianism is brought not by evil but by mediocre people who are valued more for sycophantry than for substance. Put a lot of them together and it's a guarantee -- it becomes about the war on reality.

I would look out for the mea culpas on the feeds of those docs who rushed out to defend the “cold med” theory.

And yes, I was born yesterday.

I think many of these posters want to be famous and their egos think they should be. Anyone fawning over either candidate is questionable in their motives to me.

Every time I think I know what someone is like based on his/her public image, I think of O.J, Simpson and John Lennon.

As a physician, I was responsible for the safety of others

I was in a severe car accident and my head hit the roof . I clearly had a concussion.

My symptoms resolved, and to all around me, I was functioning well .

Because I was responsible for the safety of others I (not my practice) asked to undergo neuropsychological testing, which was a four hour exam.

It did not test my medical knowledge, but it did test to see if I had any cognitive damage.

I made that available to my partners, even though I was the president of the group . When that was completed, and I went back to work.

Not too complicated .

Nikki Haley said anyone over 75 or you can make it anyone over 65 should be tested if they want to be president.

The testing will detect cognitive dysfunction from Alzheimer's, trauma, Parkinson's, or any other degenerative disease

Instead of blaming it on a cold or anything else demand both candidates get a test.

I don't want to hear about a cold or being tired or any other BS

I was there , I put my livelihood at risk and did the right thing.

I didn't say it was a bad day even though nearly dying was a very bad day .

Anyone who goes on TV and says otherwise are clearly fools

My guess is Joe Biden would fail spectacularly, and Donald Trump would fail probably not as severely, but they both would fail .

It should be eventually extended to all members of Congress and the Supreme Court. Enough already. We pay taxes and we deserve better.

Matt, you’ve earned the right to be trusted. The jackasses on TV or X have not.

Bidens decline is Denialism. Presidents are human and the US has enough history to understand this from W Wilson, FDR and Reagan

Democrats ranted about Reagan and his Dementia. Complained that the elected president was not running the country. I see no difference with this administration. They should have accepted the reality of the situation for the sake of the country.
