They righty fear (per good research) that the students may be asymptomatic carriers and infect them and consequently members of the faculty's family. GA professors refused to allow students to attend their class that were not vaccinated. Some professors were fired. Senior, well funded UGA professors, went on strike and said that they would all leave UGA if UGA fired any faculty that would not let non vaccinated students attend their class. I supported them. As a researcher and a physician, I know there is no such thing as 0% or 100%. But I make my decisions by favoring the odds, i.e., I bet with the bank. He was fired because he opposed a policy established by the US Department of Defense. Exactly the same way I was fired because my conclusion that excess cancers after mammography screening were caused by radiation displeased the DoD. It is important to remember that the conclusion that excess cancers after mammography screening constitutes overdiagnosis is pushed by the DoD and Vinay Prasad.
Harvard had a policy. Kulldorf did not follow it. He knew what would happen and made that choice. He got fired.
This essay makes it seem as if there were more to it, without presenting any supporting evidence.
Don't follow the rules at a job. Get fired. Happens every day.
Don't like the policy? Work to change it.

I read Sensible Medicine because one of the focuses of this newsletter is to correct peer review error, Many peer reviewers are not trained adequately and therefore do not realize that the study they are reviewing has flawed analysis of their data and/or misinterpreted resulting which can result incorrect recommendations frequently hurt instead of help our patients. All that said: I appear to be an outlier in this readership regarding the COVID vaccine. I trust the recommendations researchers who are experts in scientific design, such as John Ioannidis MD, PhD. John is the most cited scientist of our generation. HIs focus is correcting peer review errors. During the period when the vaccine mandates were made, the science methodological experts stated that they believe the mandates caused more benefit than harm to our population. At the University of GA our professors faced the opposite problem than the Harvard professor who was fired. Students were not required to receive the first vaccine to attend class. Some of our professors were immunosuppressed, frail, had co morbidities, or their family did. They righty fear (per good research) that the students may be asymptomatic carriers and infect them and consequently members of the faculty's family. GA professors refused to allow students to attend their class that were not vaccinated. Some professors were fired. Senior, well funded UGA professors, went on strike and said that they would all leave UGA if UGA fired any faculty that would not let non vaccinated students attend their class. I supported them. As a researcher and a physician, I know there is no such thing as 0% or 100%. But I make my decisions by favoring the odds, i.e., I bet with the bank. I also recommend that my patients bet with the bank. But as we know, sometimes you come up with snake eyes.
I read that article yesterday. One of the best pieces I’ve ever read. Dr. Kulldorf is a man with a history of commitment to others at great personal risk. He risked his life in Central America on a humanitarian mission and returned to America to ultimately risk his career. He did not lose his life in the jungles of Central America, but he found the jungles of the Ivies more dangerous and has lost his job and perhaps his career. He has demonstrated the moral courage and personal integrity to defend his work and all of us. Time for us to step up. Sign the petition and follow the links to the comments. The time is at hand to help lead, not follow, not submit to coercion, censorship and forfeiture of our fundamental rights as citizens and scientists. Ask not what you can do for your country. I do not understand how you can say that vaccination of someone who has had Covid-19 does not help others. If it reduces the likelihood of infection doesn't it also reduce the likelihood of spreading infection?

25 years ago, my company made a controversial decision to bring to the US a drug previously marketed only outside the US. The government and the media overwhelmingly celebrated the move, with HHS/AHRQ publishing a positive 100+ page evidence review and most of the major news outlets carrying favorable coverage, including feature segments anchored by Barbara Walters, Tom Brokow and Stone Phillips (and even an early-career Lauren Sanchez).
However, not everybody was in favor, and Dateline NBC also featured a counterpoint – a director from the New York State Psychiatric Institute who claimed on the segment that it was “a public health menace.” Kudos to Dateline for featuring that opinion (that was sandwiched by two positive views). What a tragedy had that alternative viewpoint been silenced and that person fired from their job.
What happened to Martin is crazy. I’d like to see people who had opposing views to his acknowledge that publicly.
