He writes an entire book bemoaning the state of Americans’ health, but fails to mention the (very large) elephant in the room? The escalation of the vaccination schedule not only in children but adults as well. I think Marty needs to put his big boy pants on and just go there.

I agree completely that our national focus should shift to foods and the American diet. it definitely is killing us. But it doesn't mean doctors should fill a role of "dietician" to instruct people on healthy eating. I don't think you need a medical degree to do that. You still need people with the license to prescribe for those that do need medication. And there are not enough docs as it is. (and of course, physicians should/do encourage, give basic info as to healthy eating goals - of course, healthy eating and weight loss would cure so many problems! We certainly encourage that)

Physicians should agitate for, push for societal change. Start talking about US food in the same way we talk about smoking. Look to smoking as guide to the most effective ways to enact habit change on broad scale: public health announcements (simple and direct); marketing campaigns; legislation for taxes to make all the unhealthy choices much more expensive; societal pressure and "norms".

Shifting the eating patterns of an entire nation is NOT done 1:1 in an exam room with a physician. And encouraging physicians to go into the "healthy eating business" just takes licensed people out of the work force and gets them selling books, podcasts, supplements, encouraging mass CGM use, etc. Good health in regard to diet is pretty simple - we do not need more "wearable tech" to accomplish this! Sugar and processed carbs are the culprits; highly palatable foods. These are addictions and "big food" has teams of people figuring out the "bliss point" for all tastes and textures. This is a societal problem, not a medical/physician focused one.

How much "study" does this need? The problems are pretty obvious.
