I find that the comparison with Semmelweis is not justified because the GBD was in line with current knowledge. It was rather the decision to implement lockdowns that represented a break, and this was due to the fact that it was not a medical decision but a military one, with Fauci aiming to minimize the damage he himself had caused through gain-of-function experiments.

Agree. I'll add that the 'silenced majority' of the medical community were more or less in line with the principles behind the GBD, but bullied into compliance with the mandates of the PH bureaucracy. In addition, the corporate media eagerly suppressed all semblance of public debate. Hence, the Semmelweis analogy is weak.
Even so, the overall point of Dr Livingston's essay is accurate.
I dunno about that. In Canada, the absolute majority of humans (my entourage tend to scientists) absolutely believe in faceDiapers/isolation because a majority of science types in Canada are like foolish Sam Harris, their scientism is premised on: maximise human life by eradicating all pain. This is a popular viewpoint among Star Trek lovers the world over, the secular equivalent to "live long and prosper". But it's a anti-science anti-biology anti-evolution point of view.
The ACTUAL way biology functions, via evolution, is biological fitness/unfitness but that's anti-woke, and not allowed to be said.
Bullied? Any organization disagreeing with Government mandates may have lots to lose by not complying. ItтАЩs not out of the realm of possibility that there were back room agreements wherein the government would ask an organization to endorse a particular policy and three days later would announce тАЬsee THEY think its a good idea so weтАЩre going to mandate it tooтАЭ. One hand washes the other.
The government could also influence, or coerce, an organization, system or hospital through building permits, access to public funds (CMS), certain public health policies (increased inspections) suggesting these might be in jeopardy if certain lines didnтАЩt align publicly. тАЬNice Medical Center you have there, it would be a shame if something bad happened to itтАЭ.
When only one family-member at a time was allowed to enter the ICU for ten minutes at a time to see their loved ones there was the constant threat of the local health authorities being notified by other families or fear-driven staff whose eyes were glued to CNN, if there was any break in the protocols. Many knew all the proscriptions by heart. Hospital administrators didnтАЩt want even a hint that a local outbreak could be traced to their facility so it was ironclad adherence to restrictions, many of which most felt were ridiculous. Those who knew better just had to enforce.
May I offer you a beautiful song that well represents how anti-authoritarianism has shifted sides since the 1980s.
Karen Young + Michel Donato were staples of the Qu├йbec jazz scene for decades. Qu├йbec had one of the world's harshest lockdowns, with quarantines after 10pm, then after 8pm, pass systems to go anywhere, not allowed outside apartments without faceDiapers, worse than Australia and NZ. I managed to live through all the Canadian (anglo Canada) bullshit with zero faceDiapering and zero jibby jabs. If me an elderly lady can, everyone could have. It's a question of human dignity.

As Dr. Livingston says тАЬhistory may not repeat itself but it rhymes.тАЭ That is the tone of his post. It is spot on.
