Great discussion. One of the cofounders I’d worry about for observational studies of GLP1 agonists is the difference between patients that are able to actually get the medication and ones that aren’t for financial reasons. That difference probably has a significant impact on most outcomes of interest and maybe difficult to control for. Probably not arrhythmias to though?
Excellent discussion, as always. An interesting contrast. The first a small study on a supplement that may have some value and is certainly worth another trial. The second a drug from the GLP class that has taken the world by storm and is being studied endlessly for possible (statistically significant) effects that have nothing to do with its original purpose and is being marketed primarily for a side effect that can be obtained with adherence to a fairly simple diet.
I had a patient within the last few months who was genuinely folate deficient. One of the handful of times I’ve seen it. In this case it was extremely severe alcoholism, with various other vitamin deficiencies as well. The lesson I draw is that if you are folate deficient in the US due to inadequate intake (as opposed to some inborn metabolic disorder) then you are likely to also have a whole host of other very serious problems.
One suggestion. Please give the results of the study a little bit when you start talking about the study. You talked about the methodology a lot and not knowing the outcome made it harder for me to understand. Thank you

This is a great point. Folate deficiency is rare “if” patient is eating a standard diet
