As someone who reads a lot of medical literature each day (I’m a medical educator), there was a definite swing in papers from trying to find the truth to protecting the party line. Asking questions became somehow subversive. Once a scientist develops enough hubris to not admit that they’re wrong, or that they could possibly be wrong, they’ve stopped doing productive science.
